This year’s theme is ‘Eco-explorers’ and we will be celebrating the incredible diversity of life on Earth and our role in protecting it.

Friday 7 August - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - ‘Guardians of the Planet’
Focus on how families can protect all habitats by reducing waste.

Activities:

• Junk model eco-heroes with Andover Trees United

  Children create their own "Guardian of the Planet" from clean recycled materials (cardboard tubes, boxes, bottle tops, cartons, etc.) and give them an environmental superpower such as protecting trees, cleaning rivers, reducing waste, or helping wildlife.

• Recycled works of art with Chapel Arts Studios 

  Recycled Works of Art: Visitors can drop in to explore recycled materials through open-ended making. Activities include a collaborative recycled sculpture, jar lid magnets and found poetry from old book pages, alongside a Letter from the Planet creative writing prompt.

• Storytelling and installation by Merry go Round Storytelling

  Where the Ash Trees Grow is is a community art project led by artist and storyteller Amanda Kane-Smith, inspired by the meaning of Andover's name, which is thought to mean 'Ash Tree Stream'.
  
  Throughout August, the O2 shop in the Chantry Centre will be transformed into a growing installation of handmade ash trees and a chalk stream. Local people will be invited to drop into the O2 shop to contribute to the installation by helping create the trees and stream and to write their thoughts, hopes and wishes on leaves on the trees, and stones and ‘ripples’ in the river bed.

• Tote bag printing "Bag for Life" workshop drop-in with Berkshire Print Makers

  Design your very own bag for life in this fun, drop-in printmaking workshop with Berkshire Printmakers. Experiment with printing techniques to create a unique canvas tote bag to take home. No booking is needed - simply drop-in, get creative and leave with a practical keepsake as unique as you are!

• Nature's recyclers activities with TVBC Countryside Team

  Discover the amazing world of nature’s recyclers! Learn about some of the creatures that help keep our environment healthy by breaking down and recycling natural materials. Get hands-on as you create your own recycled bug hotels and animal-inspired crafts using repurposed materials.

• Bin Rat by The Last Baguette

  A rat-astic and realistic look into refuse and recycling. Rummage through the rubble with Bin Rat and her friends Mike and Angela from Squeaky Clean Street Cleaners to discover where all the junk goes!

  Scrape scraps off the streets and find out what literally happens to litter in this fun, feral, family show.

• Face painting with Sally Rose

  Add a splash of colour to your day with Face painting by Sally Rose. 

• The Great Green Wardrobe with TVBC's Environmental Services Team

  Step into The Great Green Wardrobe and discover how small changes to the way we buy, wear, and care for our clothes can make a big difference to the environment. Be inspired to refresh your wardrobe while helping to reduce waste and protect our planet. 

• Resources from nature with Andover Museum

  Explore how people in the past used the resources around them in a sustainable way - object handling and weaving.

• Rhymetime, storytime and drop in crafts with Andover Library

  Join Andover Library for a delightful day of songs, stories, crafts, and fun! At 11:00am, enjoy a lively 30-minute Rhymetime session with music and singing. Throughout the day, children can also take part in drop-in craft activities, perfect for getting creative. Then, return at 2:30pm for a magical Storytime session designed to spark imaginations and bring stories to life.
